I was just wondering the other day why George Carlin omitted "asshole" from his list. And, not for nothing, but I always thought it was unnecessary for him to include "motherfucker," since "fuck" is already in the list. (Unlike "cocksucker," since "cock" can be used in a non-offensive way.)

Of course, in the UK we don't say 'ass', we say 'arse' (that's the actual spelling, as well as the pronunciation) but the meaning works just as well, even though it sounds quite different.

Over here a recent (last ten years) phenomenon amongst a certain class of person, is to say instead of, "I can't be bothered"; "I can't be arsed". This of course just doesn't work with 'ass'.
