Last month I wrote about "professional" baby namers, whose ascendancy had been reported in the Wall Street Journal. One of the "nameologists" profiled in the WSJ article was Maryanna Korwitts, who was later interviewed by ABC News. (Guess what ABC's headline was? Yep: "What's in a Name?" Eerie, isn't it, how so many headline writers come to the identical conclusion?)
Ms. Korwitts's M.O. involves much more than just handing over a list of baby names. She finds names with the right "silent, energetic frequency"; if you're unfortunate enough to have grown up with the "wrong" name, she offers "name therapy." (She changed her own first name from Mary Ann, presumably as a result of a self-intervention.)
I was ready to dismiss Ms. Korwitts's "name tuning" and "name-agories" as a load of woo-woo. But then I submitted my own name for a "report card," and lo! It turns out that Maryanna Korwitts is a genius. Really, the woman is nothing short of brilliant.
Hat tip to Thingnamer's Tate Linden, who is justifiably grumpier than I am about the Korwitts enterprise.
Hah!
